| The
Columbia Chapter of SCGS has a long and rich history within our
society.
The South Carolina Genealogical Society was formed in Columbia January
12, 1970. In November 1973 the bylaws of the society were
revised
to provide for the formation of Society Chapters throughtout the
state.
Columbia Chapter was one of the first four chapters of the society.
Today,
Columbia Chapter continues to be dedicated to the standards set by this
orgainzation in 1970.
The Columbia Chapter, SCGS is a non profit organization located in Richland County, South Carolina. Our purpose is to acquire, preserve, make available and publish material relevant to South Carolina and Richland County genealogy and history. We are staffed entirely by volunteers and our membership is open to anyone interested in genealogy. Chapter meetings are held on the second Sunday of each month at 3:00 p.m. at the South Carolina State Museum, Gervais Street, Columbia, SC. No meeting is held in July. Annual
membership dues are $20 for individuals, $25 for family and $15 for
associate members. Members receive the Columbia Cronicle and the
Carolina Herald and Newsletter, the quarterly publications of the
Columbis
Chapter and the South Carolina Genealogical Society.
